August 11, 2010:

Basketball WhiteBoard version 1.5 is now available in the App Store! This version works with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and is a free upgrade for existing users. For new users, the price is still just 99 cents!

Thanks to user Coaching8v8 for identifying some minor bugs in the current version of Soccer WhiteBoard. These bugs exist in Hockey WhiteBoard and Basketball WhiteBoard too and will be addressed soon. I've already fixed the problem with custom position names not savings properly. The issue actually is that the custom names were not being synced between portrait and landscape orientations. When saving files, the whiteboard always uses the portrait orientation whiteboard to save the file. So if you've made a change to a player's designation in landscape mode and then save the file, the change will not be saved. I've fixed this already but will look into adding a few other fixes/features before releasing an update. As a workaround, always save in portrait mode and when the bug fix is released your landscape views will look fine too!

August 5, 2010:

Soccer WhiteBoard Version 1.5 is now available at the App Store! This version works with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and is a free upgrade for existing users. For new users, the price is still just 99 cents! I am currently working on updating Baseball WhiteBoard.

July 28, 2010:

APPLE HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM IN THE SUBMISSION SYSTEM THAT HAS CAUSED HOCKEY WHITEBOARD TO CRASH ON STARTUP.

The updated version is now live on the App Store and available for update/download by all. If you are a Hockey WhiteBoard user, please update to this version ASAP as it fixes the crashing problem!

A Soccer WhiteBoard update has been resubmitted and is currently "Wiating for Review". A Basketball WhiteBoard update in complete and in the process of being uploaded to the App Store for review.

July 27, 2010:

HWB 1.5.4 is being reviewed at App Store, v1.5.3 did NOT fix the problem.

Frustration is mounting regarding this problem with App Store distribution. I've discovered at least 4 other developers having the same issue. I'm following suggestions by the Apple Developer Technical Support crew for workarounds to the problem and have submitted a new version (1.5.4) that hopefully solves the problem.

July 23, 2010:

UPDATE: Apple has confirmed with me that the problem is most likely a weird problem with the submission process and not the actual Hockey WhiteBoard program itself. The suggestion from Apple was to resubmit the application (which I have already done). Hopefully version 1.5.3 will download properly for everyone!

HWB 1.5.3 being reviewed at App Store, Soccer WhiteBoard 1.5 is waiting for review at the App Store!

Again, many apologies to those of you bitten by the problem with 1.5.2. I can assure all of you that the development builds I worked with did not exhibit this crash and that the problem only appeared with the distribution build (something I can't test locally before submitting). I think the issue is releated to using an older SDK; version 1.5.3 was built with the latest SDK.

Soccer WhiteBoard 1.5 has been submitted for review! Thanks to all who have been so patient, I hope you find it worth the wait. I am hopeful that I will turn around BasketBall WhiteBoard 1.5 quickly, please stay tuned!

I've received one request for the ability to utilize external video on an iPad with the whiteboard apps. After I'm done upgrading Basketball WhiteBoard, I will be looking to do another minor update that incorporates support for this as well as support for utilizing file sharing so that you can extract your saved files easily!

July 21, 2010:

HWB 1.5.2 NOW AVAILABLE, SOME REPORTS OF FREEZING ON STARTUP.

An update for Hockey WhiteBoard (v1.5.2) was approved for sale Monday in the App Store. This update fixes the bug in 1.5.1 described below. Two users have reported that, after updating, the application freezes on startup. If you are experiencing this problem, please email support@sandcrater.com ASAP! Thanks!

July 7, 2010:

BUG IN HOCKEY WHITEBOARD 1.5.1! HWB 1.5.1 was just approved for sale in the App Store. At the time I discovered that there is a bug in Hockey WhiteBoard when run on an iPad. When in landscape orientation on an iPad, events on the far right side of the screen do not appear to register. So you cannot move players that are on the far right side of the screen, you cannot use the file selection table view and you cannot start drawing on the far right side of the screen. I am working to fix this as it appears in my development version of Soccer WhiteBoard as well. When fixed, both apps will be released!

July 2, 2010:

Thanks again for all of your patience waiting for iPad updates of Soccer WhiteBoard, Basketball WhiteBoard and Baseball WhiteBoard. I've been working on Soccer WhiteBoard where I have been looking into issues with the use of "parallel views" to handle portrait and landscape orientations on the iPad. There was a problem that did not appear in Hockey WhiteBoard that was persistent in Soccer WhiteBoard. I've finally fixed that problem an incorporated the changes back into a pending update of Hockey WhiteBoard. In addition, I fixed two minor bugs in Hockey WhiteBoard and incorporated the fixes into a version 1.5.1 release of the app (currently "Waiting for Review" in the App Store). The first bug involved not resetting the position of the puck when performing a "Team Player Reset" operation, and the second involved an issue where "Drawing Mode" doesn't work until you rotate the device into Landscape orientation and back.

May 30, 2010:

Hockey WhiteBoard Version 1.5 has been approved for sale in the App Store! Current owners of HWB 1.4 or earlier should see a FREE update in the AppStore for this product. If you have an iPad, Hockey WhiteBoard will show a much larger interface, but if you are on an iPhone or iPod touch, you will see the classic interface with a few improvements!

May 18, 2010:

Hockey WhiteBoard was resubmitted to the AppStore on Sunday (5/16) and will hopefully be available soon. I am turning my attention to getting Soccer WhiteBoard in shape for submission ASAP!

April 26, 2010:

Thanks to all who are being patient waiting for Hockey WhiteBoard and the other white board applications to be resubmitted to the AppStore. Handling the portrait orientation has turned out to be a bit more challenging than anticipated, though I'm I'm down to a few items on the list of things to do before resubmitting. The most challenging aspect will be to maintain and "drawing" done during orientation changes. The initial version may just have separate virtual overlays for portrait and landscape mode, but my preference would be to auto-translate the drawings between the two distinct views so it gives the appearance of there being only one drawing view used (that's what I think you'd want it to do).

I will keep you all posted; again, thanks for your patience!

April 10, 2010:

Hockey WhiteBoard is finally IN REVIEW at the App Store!!! As you would imagine, it is MUCH smoother to use and has the benefit of a better-scaled ice rink surface to draw on. It is actually still a little wider than it should be, even with the control bar on the right (proper scaling would put the ice image at 1000x445, I've used 1000x550).

I will be working on the other three applications soon; they should be much easier now that I've done it once.

Please note that that version 1.5 is a FREE UPGRADE for all current users. As I've stated all along, I won't charge a fee again until version 2.0 (which may be the next version).

April 6, 2010:

Hockey WhiteBoard is almost ready to be submitted. Check out this screen shot for a preview! After getting the updates out I will take a longer, harder look at how to best take advantage of the interface elements on the iPad. On the version about to be submitted, all of the controls are on the screen and there is no need to flip back and forth to change settings.

April 3, 2010:

I received my iPad today a little after noon. After getting to know it a bit I began the process of getting it set up as a development device so I can get all of the white board applications running on it! Here are just a couple of the features that will be available in the 1.5 version of each application (iPhone & iPad):

  • Ability to choose a custom color for each team
  • Ability to have two character labels on each player (player dots are bigger on the iPad, but if you want to use jersey numbers as the labels the numbers seem to fit on the smaller dots on the iPhone)

For an example, check out this early screenshot captured from my iPad! Keep in mind that the interface may change a little bit before the next update is released.

March 27, 2010:

All of the Sports WhiteBoard applications are being updated as Universal Applications that will run on any of the iPhone OS devices (iPhone, iPod touch AND iPad). When run on an iPad, the interface will be different and you will have a whiteboard that is properly scaled with the corresponding field dimensions. The additional screen real estate available on an iPad will also allow for controls on the main screen (off to the side) so you will not need to flip back and forth between control screens and the "field" when making changes.

There will be NO UPGRADE FEE for these applications as they will appear in the App Store as an upgrade to your existing application that you have already purchased. Universal Applications (again, those that run natively on all iPhone OS devices) that are upgrades to existing iPhone applications are not being accepted by Apple until after the iPad ships. Assuming I can submit the upgrades on or about April 3, the upgrades should show up within a week or so of that.

Please watch this space for more information about the status of the FREE HockeyWhiteBoard, Soccer WhiteBoard, BaseBall WhiteBoard and BasketBall WhiteBoard updates. Those purchasing these applications for the first time will still pay 99 cents. Please also watch the application specific areas of this web site for specific information about iPad specific features for each application!

January 30, 2010:

I'm very excited about the announcement of the new Apple iPad and have begun work on implementing the sports white board applications on that platform taking advantage of the much bigger screen size! If you have any suggestions for features, please send them along to our support account!

September 12, 2009:

Hockey WhiteBoard v1.4, Baseball WhiteBoard v1.3 and Basketball WhiteBoard v1.3 are all available at the App Store!

September 4, 2009:

Soccer WhiteBoard v1.3 is now available at the App Store!

August 30, 2009:

Version 1.3 of both Basketball WhiteBoard and Baseball WhiteBoard are now "In Review" at the App Store. Both versions get the ability to arbitrarily assign any number, letter or symbol to players, and Basketball WhiteBoard now preserves relative player positioning when switching between full and half court modes. The manuals for both have been updated and are available now (both manuals are for version 1.3 which--as noted above--are still "In Review")

August 27, 2009:

Soccer WhiteBoard v1.3 and Hockey WhiteBoard v1.4 are currently "In Review" at the App Store. I've added the ability to arbitrarily assign any letter or symbol to a player as well as the ability to have the players stay in their relative places on the field when switching between different screen modes. Additionally, in Soccer WhiteBoard, I've renamed the "Half Field" field option "1st Third" to more accurately describe the field view.

July 21, 2009:

Hockey WhiteBoard v1.3.1, Soccer WhiteBoard v1.2.1, Basketball WhiteBoard v1.2 and Baseball WhiteBoard v1.2 are all available at the App Store!

July 18, 2009:

BUG WARNING! BUG WARNING!
Thanks to "Mike" for reporting to me that there was a bug in Soccer WhiteBoard v1.2 (that also appears in Hockey WhiteBoard v1.3) where changes made to the letter of a player do not appear to be saved when you save the state of the whiteboard to a file. In fact, the files are all being saved properly but the saved letters were being disregarded when loaded. I have submitted fixed versions of these applications to the App Store this evening (v1.2.1 of Soccer WhiteBoard and v1.3.1 of Hockey WhiteBoard) and hopefully they will be available soon! Please do not hesitate to send any comments/concerns you have to our support email (support@sandcrater.com). I apologize for the inconvenience!

The Hockey WhiteBoard User Manual and the Soccer WhiteBoard User Manual have both been updated to reflect features in the latest versions.

July 17, 2009:

Hockey WhiteBoard v1.3 and Soccer WhiteBoard v1.2 have been approved for sale and are now available in the App Store! The Hockey WhiteBoard manual has been updated and the Soccer WhiteBoar manual will be updated soon!

July 15, 2009:

Another round of updates has been submitted to the App Store! Updated versions of all four whiteboard applications now support "drawing mode". To get to drawing mode, simply perform a vertical swipe of at least 200 pixels (without dragging any of the player dots) and you will see a visual indicator that you are in drawing mode. Then, any touches on the iPhone/iPod touch cause lines to be drawn on top of the playing area. When you are done, simply double-tap anywhere on the screen to return to "normal" mode. At any point you can shake the device to remove the hand-drawn lines.

July 3, 2009:

Baseball WhiteBoard Version 1.1, Hockey WhiteBoard Version 1.2 and Basketball WhiteBoard Version 1.1 are all now available at the App Store!

July 1, 2009:

Soccer WhiteBoard Version 1.1 is now available at the App Store!

June 27, 2009:

All four updates are still "In Review" at the App Store. My guess is the combination of WWDC and the iPhone OS 3.0 release has the reviewers very bogged down. I've begun working on a "drawing overlay" that will allow you to put a whiteboard into "drawing mode" and use your finger to draw lines. This has been requested by many users though I'm a little concerned that it won't give you precise enough drawing to be effective. That being said, I'll implement it and you can give me feedback on its effectiveness!

June 18, 2009:

Updates to three of the four WhiteBoard applications were submitted last Sunday (June 14) and should be appear as updates in iTunes within a week from that day. The Baseball WhiteBoard update was submitted yesterday. The updates include the ability to show "trailing lines" behind players after they've been moved, and a new "crease view" was added to Hockey WhiteBoard.

June 6, 2009:

Updates are coming for all products! Finishing touches are being put on the ability to display trailing lines when moving players, and I'm implementing a request to have a "crease view" in Hockey WhiteBoard to allow for better goalie coaching. I'm not sure if WWDC (happening next week) will cause the update submission problem to slow or not, but you should see updates to all applications soon. Updates should be submitted by tomorrow evening and hopefully it will not take more than a week to have them approved.

June 2, 2009:

Baseball WhiteBoard Version 1.0 is now available at the App Store!

Soccer WhiteBoard Version 1.0 is now available at the App Store!

May 3, 2009:

Soccer WhiteBoard Version 1.0 is currently "In Review" at the App Store. The version submitted implements a new feature in the sports WhiteBoard series which is a field that this three times the width of the iPhone/iPod touch screen and allows you to scroll. This is in conjunction with the standard "full field" display that fits in the bounds of the screen (320x460) and the standard "half field" display.

April 7, 2009

Today we submitted two applications to the App Store for review. The first is an update to Hockey WhiteBoard. This version adds the ability to show goalies (or switch them out for a sixth skater if you need to diagram "pulled goalie" situations), the ability to save current positions into a file and a new "flipside view" for controlling settings. Our second application submitted was the first verison of Basketball WhiteBoard. This is based on the Hockey WhiteBoard code, but adjusted for basketball. Let us know what you think of it and any suggestions for improvement you have!

March 24, 2009:
